About “Greta” our organ

The Hook & Hastings Organ Company built our organ, affectionately named “Greta” by our long time organist, Marilyn Dolliver, in 1885 as their opus #1261. Originally it was built for Trinity Methodist Church, Lynn, MA, - worship space of similar proportions to St. John. In 1996 we purchased it from Bethlehem Temple Pentecostal Church who had taken over the church. Several parishioners joined with a crew from David Wallace & Co. Pipe Organ Builders, in disassembling the organ for transport and storage at their facility in Gorham, ME. The organ was restored in the spring and installed in July 1997. Funding for the purchase and restoration was provided by the St. Andrew & St. John “Open Hearts, Open Windows” Capital Campaign Fund.
